Tea at the Empress Hotel an adventure weekend to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
March 10, 2018
Washington Regency Society would like to invite you to an elegant weekend up in Victoria BC.
For those of us in the Puget Sound Area, we will be taking the Clipper from downtown Seattle at 8:00 AM on March 10th. The Clipper is a fast and fun way to get up to Victoria, and has accommodation for our baggage (up to 2 bags). Once there we will be transported to our hotel where you can change and freshen up. You may choose any hotel you wish from the selection on the Clipper Vacations website, but our hotel of choice is the Chateau Victoria as it is situated directly behind the Empress Hotel. We will be attending the 3:00 PM Afternoon Tea at the Empress. Come in costume (not required) to experience this elegant tea. Our waiter will inform us of tea customs and explain their delicious treats sourced from local ingredients. There is also an optional play we can attend that evening, Sense and Sensibility, at the Langhorn Theater at 7:00 PM. The author of the original book is Jane Austen, a famous writer of the Regency Period. Some of us will be attending this performance in costume as well.
Victoria offers many fun and educational opportunities, and you will have Sunday to participate in any of these that you may choose. I can particularly recommend the History Museum which is within walking distance of our hotel and covers much of the history of the area including First Nation displays. Also of interest might be Craigdarroch Castle, a lavish Victorian style home built by a local timber baron.
To participate in this activity, you can call or go on line to Clipper Vacations (1-800-888-2535, clippervacations.com) and they will assist you in reserving the transportation, hotel, and tea. For the tea please reference Reservation # 661705. If you are not taking the Clipper up to Victoria, but arriving via another form of transport, you can still call them to reserve your tea and/or hotel.
Sense and Sensibility Play
Langhorn Court Theater, Victoria BC
March 10, 2018 - 8:00 PM
As part of our WRS Victoria experience, we have the opportunity to attend this play on Saturday evening. It comes highly recommended with nationwide reviews:
“A whirlwind of delicious gossip… furiously funny and memorably moving” (New York Times)
“Wry, sharp-witted, engaging, intimate, and often hysterical” (Towle Road)
We can attend this as a group for a special group rate of $18 Canadian Dollars (Approximately $15 USD) per person, but we need a few more of you to get this rate. If you are going to Victoria with us for the Empress Tea and would like to also attend the play, please let us know by February 1. You can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. If we do not get the 10 minimum, the cost will be $23CAD or $21CAD for Seniors. If we go not as a group, I cannot guarantee sitting together.
