Blessing of the Hounds

Sunday, November 8, 11 am

  • Woodbrook Hunt Club
  • 6206 150th St. SW – Lakewood, WA 98439

Please reserve your spot here for the Blessing of the Hounds at the Woodbrook Hunt Club, which celebrates its one hundredth anniversary this year. There are 25 spots available for WRS members at $25 each (non-members are $30).  The proceeds go to feed the Woodbrook Hunt Club hounds.

Your ticket includes the Blessing, the traditional Stirrup Cup, views of the hunt (if you have or share a 4WD vehicle), and a traditional hunt breakfast when the hunters return, around 2pm.

Foxhunting was very popular during the Regency, and the Woodbrook Hunt Club is the only foxhunting club in the Pacific Northwest, hunting on the training areas of JBLM. Woodbrook Hunt Club practices a drag hunt, with the hounds chasing a human “fox” dragging a scent bag. No animals are harmed, though the “foxes” might get a few muddy pawprints. You will learn more about foxhunting and the attire at this event.

The Blessing of the Hounds dates back to the 8th century, commemorating St. Hubert’s feast day. St. Hubert is the patron saint of hunters and hounds. The Woodbrook Hunt Club celebrates the Blessing of the Hounds each year to ask for safe and successful hunting, and protection for the hounds, the horses, and the riders.

Requested donation is $25 per person for WRS Members and $30 for non-members.  All proceeds from the hunt go to support the feeding and care of the hounds.

As always, appropriate period attire is greatly admired but not required. Please do dress appropriately for an outdoor event in potentially inclement weather.
