Regency Style Tavern Event
Cards and Games evening

We will have an evening of games and cards in the style of a Regency Tavern
at the Pioneer Hall — 1642 43rd Ave E, Seattle, WA 98112
Come join the Washington Regency Society for a night of cards and games as we try to recreate the feeling of an early 19th Century tavern.
In the Regency, taverns and inns began to offer more than a mere room for meetings, drinking, and dining. Leisure activities for the community began to be offered: cards and games, music and dance assemblies (like those in Meryton and Highbury in Jane Austen’s novels), plays, and sports, were as common as food and ale.
We will meet on Saturday, September 26, 2026, in the evening, at the Pioneer Hall in Seattle’s Madison Park neighborhood. (1642 43rd Ave E, Seattle, WA 98112) The hall is rustic in feeling with wooden floors and a large stone fireplace. Although not as old as the Regency, it is a historic building. The Pioneer Association of the State of Washington owns the building and is our host us for this evening.
The building was erected in 1910 on the western shore of Lake Washington. If there is interest, we can meet a few feet away from the hall at the beach for photos and a promenade back to the hall in our Regency finery.
WRS volunteers will be organizing a tavern style meal for you (meats, cheeses, breads, a hot dish or soup.) Of course, there will be tea and coffee available, and alcohol (in moderation) will be allowed, but will not be provided. (i.e. BYOB)
Regency themed board games and playing cards will be available for all to enjoy. If you are interested in playing a specific game or starting a table for whist, please let us know. We will also be looking for a dealer to run a game of Speculation or a game of Lottery. We will not be betting (with real money) on this occasion as that would violate Washington State laws.
Tickets for the event will be $40 each, $30 for members of WRS.

Costumers of Color Rococo Salon
The Costumers of Color are putting on an 18th Century Rococo/Georgian Symposium & Salon on October 3, which includes a Ball. It will be at the University Women’s Club in downtown Seattle. 18th Century fashions are required.
Gigi, the Founder and Executive Director of Costumers of Color, is a member of WRS and has done great things to help make the costuming world more welcoming and safer.

Blessing of the Hounds at the Woodbrook Hunt Club

Members of the Washington Regency Society are invited to attend the annual Blessing of the Hounds service.
Watch the hounds and horses at work on a hunt through the grounds at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Sweet Themes Bakery
Join your Washington Regency Society friends and guests for a Regency-themed tea! This year, the tea will be at Sweet Themes Bakery in Kent.
Sweet Themes creates a themed tea each month. They have created a Regency/Jane Austen themed tea for the month of June and we have reserved the entire tea room just for WRS on June 7, the first Sunday.
Please make your reservation soon. The room only holds 30.
Tea will be served at 1 pm. Price for the tea experience is $48 plus tax and tip.

As always, costumes are admired but not required.
Exploring your Heritage through Costuming in The Regency Era
What were your ancestors wearing in the time we call the Regency? (broadly 1790-1820). Were they wearing the Kaftan and Salvar of Turkey? Were they decked out in the Sarees, Choli and Salwar Kameez of India? Perhaps they wore the San Culottes of Revolutionary France or the lace of Brittany? Were they clothed in the vibrant blend of African, European and Indian influences in the Caribbean? Were they already in North America but wearing the European influences of the day? We invite you to be inspired by them for the Saturday Night Soiree at our annual retreat March of 2027.
Our member Gigi the founder of Costumers of Color will give a 1 hour talk via ZOOM about researching your personal heritage in the Regency Era and the general cultural influences of the times.

WRS REFUND POLICY
(This policy was adopted on 5/7/17)
• Deposits or full amount must be received by the published deadline which is 30 days prior to the event unless otherwise specified.
• If the minimum number of people do not sign up by the deadline, the event will be canceled, and money refunded.
• If an attendee cancels after the published deadline, no refund will be made.
• Attendance is transferable but the purchaser is responsible for finding a substitute.
