This year’s sail on the sailing ship Lady Washington was out of beautiful Port Ludlow Washington on the Olympic Peninsula. We met for a stroll on Saturday in historic Port Gamble. This nationally registered town has many old buildings and information on its past history as an early port in Puget Sound. On Sunday, we met for a picnic lunch on the grounds of the Port Ludlow Resort. Participants researched appropriate foods for a Regency Picnic, and even brought their own small tables and chairs for a very elegant repast under the evergreen trees. In the evening, we enjoyed a spectacular sunset sail on the Lady Washington. The all volunteer crew from Historical Seaport out of Aberdeen does a wonderful job of demonstrating how a ship of the period operates and even entertained us with period sailing songs with a volley of cannon blasts to top it all off.
